I decided to update the operating system on my Galaxy S from version 2.2 (Froyo) to 2.3.3 (Gingerbread). The official Gingerbread ROM has been available for a while now, but I decided to try a custom ROM – in this case, a variation on Darky’s Rom. I followed the guide on the XDA forums created by Virnik0, which is very in-depth and tells you everything you need to know, as well as providing all the necessary files to download (Odin, CF-Root, Voodoo, and the ROM itself).
Following Virnik0′s instructions made everything very straightforward, and before I knew it I was booting my phone into Gingerbread. Everything seems a bit smoother than it was under Froyo, it’s too soon to tell if the battery life has really improved but hopefully it will have made a difference.
I’ve just about got everything setup as I had it before (restored apps using Titanium, reinstalled LauncherPro and various games) and it’s all working well.
